Farm Country Spoke Up, Now Congress Must Deliver

WASHINGTON — In response to yesterday’s elections, National Farmers Union (NFU) President Rob Larew shared the following statement:

“This election season, family farmers and ranchers made themselves heard. At town halls, county fairs and kitchen tables, they told candidates exactly what’s at stake: high fuel, fertilizer, seed, and feed costs; tight margins; monopoly control of our markets; and policy whiplash on tariffs and trade that makes it hard to plan for the next season, let alone the next generation.

“Those concerns moved beyond the kitchen table. They were voiced in campaign ads, on debate stages, and in stump speeches across the country. Family farmers helped set the agenda. Now those who represent them must deliver.

“The campaigning is over, and the governing begins. Farmers have waited too long for a farm bill that reflects the realities we face today. In the remaining weeks of this Congress and into the next, we will work to modernize farm policy, strengthen the safety net, restore fairness and competition in the marketplace, and give the next generation a real shot at a future in agriculture.

“Farmers Union members will keep showing up and speaking out. When the new Congress gets to work, our voices will be in the room.”
