Issue Overview
Family farmers and ranchers are the backbone of our domestic energy production – and have the potential to increase their contribution even more with government incentives and localized farmer ownership. Energy generated from biomass represented 60% of renewable fuel generation in 2023, and family farmers continue to play a pivotal role in achieving our renewable energy goals. Biofuels are good for the environment, good for farmers’ bottom line, and good for consumer costs at the pump.
Congress can help encourage the potential of biofuels by:
- Implementing year-round E-15 and other higher ethanol blends that help diversify and expand the utility of biofuels
- Unifying around the GREET model as the standard assessment for measuring emission impacts
- Balancing any trade deficits within the biofuels sector through domestic market promotions and comprehensive trade deals
