Local Food Safety Collaborative

The NFU Foundation’s Local Food Safety Collaborative (LFSC) is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-funded initiative to provide training, education, and technical assistance to local food producers.

Food safety is a critical component of good farm management.

The NFU Foundation’s Local Food Safety Collaborative is an FDA-funded initiative to provide training, education, and technical assistance to local food producers. Its core mission is to build fundamental knowledge of food safety and support compliance with Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) regulations.

Under LFSC, the NFU Foundation works with twelve agriculture organizations and academic institutions to leverage their local networks and expertise and address the food safety needs of small-scale, diversified, sustainable, organic, and identity-preserved growers and processors. Building food safety knowledge among these groups supports FSMA compliance and strengthens producers’ ability to access a wider variety of markets.
