WASHINGTON (September 28, 2015) – National Farmers Union (NFU) Senior Vice President of Programs Chandler Goule has accepted the Friends of the National Arboretum’s (FONA) invitation to join their leadership team and is now a member of their board of directors.

“It is a great honor for me to join the FONA leadership team and I look forward to having input into their efforts on environmental preservation, plant research, preservation of urban greenspace and community outreach,” said Goule.

FONA is an independent, non-profit organization established to enhance and support the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington DC. They support the national arboretum, comprised of 446 acres of gardens, fields and woodlands in the heart of the nation’s capital. Members range from passionate gardeners and those who love to stroll on wooded trails to others who seek to preserve newly identified endangered plant species.

“The NFU board of directors recently voted to make climate change one of our organization’s top three legislative and organizational priorities,” said Goule. “So joining the FONA board of directors couldn’t come at a better time,” he said. “Clearly, preserving urban green space is part of a portfolio of smart choices we can make to help counter the affects of urbanization and its contribution to climate change,” he said.

National Farmers Union has been working since 1902 to protect and enhance the economic well-being and quality of life for family farmers, ranchers and rural communities through advocating grassroots-driven policy positions adopted by its membership.
